Legendary blues and soul singer Etta James sadly passed away this morning at the age of 73 of complications from leukaemia, and her death has sent shockwaves through the music community.
Beyonce, who played James in the 2008 movie Cadillac Records, released a statement expressing her sadness at the news.
“This is a huge loss,” she wrote. “Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime.”
A stack of other stars have also spoken on Twitter about the news.
“RIP Etta James. One of the greatest voices of all time,” tweeted Nathan Followil of the Kings of Leon. “Thanks for the many romantic moments your music created.”
Kelly Rowland tweeted: “CLASSIC. ONE OF A KIND. PURE SOUL. ETTA JAMES! Thank You for gracing us with your incredible talent & presence! (sic)”
Rihanna: “#DearEtta may you rest in peace.”
Will.i.am: “Showing respect appreciation and love for all the wonderful music and joy #ettajames brought to the world…#ettajamesforever (sic)”
Actress Jessica Alba tweeted, “Rip EttaJames u r (sic) a legend and 1 of my all time favs -thank you for giving us all the gift of song -what a voice!”

Caleb Followill, singer for the Kings of Leon and his Victoria's Secret Angel wife Lily Aldridge have just announced they are expecting their first child.
“We are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our first child together...We can’t wait to meet the new addition to our family,” Lily, 26 and Caleb, 29, announced to People magazine.
The couple tied the knot in Santa Barbara in May, where it was clear Caleb was thinking about starting a family.
“I can’t wait to raise a family with her because she’s a great woman,” the singer told PEOPLE in August.
This won't be the first Kings of Leon baby – Caleb's cousin Matthew Followill welcomed a son last April and at the time said everyone was starting to get a bit clucky.
“Other people in the band are getting kind of excited [to start families] now that we have a baby.”
With all these babies arriving – could this be the end of the Kings of Leon?

US rockers Kings Of Leon may have had to postpone their Australian tour, but there’s no doubt we’re in the band’s thoughts, with confirmation of a third and final Melbourne show, plus the awesome news that they’ll be bringing out their friends Band Of Horses with them for the whole Australian tour!
